Ingredients
  

For the patties

  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs You can substitute with crushed crackers or oats.
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 each egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust according to taste.

For the gravy

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced Feel free to add more if you enjoy mushrooms.
  • 2 tablespoons flour Used to thicken the gravy.
  • 2 tablespoons butter For cooking the patties and making the gravy.

For serving

  • as needed Creamy mashed potatoes Serve alongside the Salisbury steak.

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into patties.

Cooking

  • In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat and cook the patties until browned on both sides.
  • Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add flour and stir until it turns golden. Slowly add beef broth while stirring constantly. Add mushrooms and return the patties to the skillet.
  • Simmer for about 20 minutes until the gravy thickens.

Serving

  • Serve the patties smothered in gravy with creamy mashed potatoes on the side.

Notes

To store leftovers, place the Salisbury steak and gravy in an airtight container. Keep it in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop until warmed through. For extra flavor, sprinkle some fresh parsley on top before serving.
