Ingredients
  

Cookie Base

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure your butter is softened but not melted for best texture.
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs For chewier cookies, add an extra egg yolk.
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips You can use a mix of dark and milk chocolate for more depth in flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until creamy.
  • Add the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.

Baking

  • Drop large spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. The centers may look soft; that’s okay!
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Store your cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If you want to keep them longer, freeze them in a freezer bag for up to three months. Don't overbake; pulling them out when just set will keep them chewy.
