  • 2 cups long grain rice Rinse before cooking to remove excess starch.
  • 1 piece onion, chopped
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Adjust for saltier flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Melt over medium heat.
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Optional spices (garlic powder, paprika, etc.)

Instructions
 

Cooking the rice

  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onions and sauté until they are translucent.
  • Stir in the rice and cook for a few minutes until the rice is lightly toasted.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and soy sauce, bringing it to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  • Fluff with a fork, season with salt, pepper, and any additional spices, and serve warm as a side dish.

Notes

Leftover rice can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop with a bit of water if needed. This rice can also be customized with cooked chicken, shrimp, or vegetables for a one-pot meal.
