Ingredients
  

Onions and Spices

  • 3 large large sweet onions, sliced Use Vidalia or Walla Walla onions for best flavor.
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted Melted butter to enhance richness.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For added flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme Can substitute with other herbs.
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cheeses

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Provides a sharp flavor.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese For a gooey texture.
  • 1 cup crumbled cream cheese Adds creaminess.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced onions, melted butter, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper.

Layering

  • Layer half of the onion mixture in a baking dish.
  • Spread half of the cheddar, mozzarella, and cream cheese over the onions.
  • Add the remaining onions on top followed by the rest of the cheeses.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave. You can add cooked bacon bits or sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor.
