  • 1 lb steak (sirloin or flank) You can substitute with chicken or shrimp.
  • 2 cups cooked rice Brown rice can be used as a healthier option.
  • 1 cup queso cheese sauce Shredded cheese or homemade cheese sauce can be used instead.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • as needed fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Season the steak with salt and pepper, then add it to the skillet. Cook until browned on both sides and cooked to your desired doneness. Remove and let rest.
  • In the same skillet, add diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until translucent.
  • Slice the steak into thin strips.
  • In a large bowl, combine cooked rice, sautéed onions and garlic, and steak.
  • Pour queso cheese sauce over the mixture and stir until well combined.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the steak beforehand with your favorite seasonings. This dish can also be enjoyed with a side of tortilla chips or a fresh salad.
