Ingredients
  

Main ingredients

  • 500 g ground pork
  • 1 medium apple, peeled and grated Make sure to grate finely.
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh sage, finely chopped Or 1 tsp dried sage.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil For frying.

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, grated apple, onion, garlic, sage, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  • Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about the size of a golf ball.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the meatballs in batches and cook for 8–10 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through.
  • Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  • Serve warm with mashed potatoes, gravy, or a light apple sauce.

Notes

Make sure to grate the apple finely to mix well with the meat. For a little spice, add red pepper flakes. Use fresh sage for a brighter flavor, but dried sage works well too. Don’t overcrowd the skillet when cooking; fry the meatballs in batches for even cooking.
