  • 450 g lean ground beef Use lean ground beef to keep the dish healthier.
  • 30 g butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 230 g brown mushrooms, minced Ensure the mushrooms are minced well to blend nicely with the beef.
  • 30 g ketchup
  • 240 ml beef broth
  • 225 g provolone cheese, chopped or shredded Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese.
  • 6 pieces brioche hamburger buns You can use any sturdy hamburger buns if brioche is unavailable.

Preparation

  • Brown the lean ground beef in a hot pan. Once browned, remove and set aside.
  • In the same pan, melt the butter and sauté the diced onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms until browned.
  • Mix the beef broth, cornstarch, ketchup, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Pour this mixture into the sautéed veggies and simmer until thickened.
  • Return the beef to the pan and mix well.
  • Turn off the heat and stir in the provolone cheese until melted.
  • Butter and toast the brioche buns separately until golden.
  • Fill the toasted buns with the cheesy beef mixture and serve warm.

Notes

Serve these sloppy joes hot, add extra toppings like pickles or jalapeños if you like some heat. Pair them with potato chips or a side salad for a complete meal. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
