Ingredients
  

Potatoes

  • 1.8 kg Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes Best texture and flavor for mashing.
  • 3 cloves garlic (optional) Adds flavor if desired.

Dairy & Fats

  • 75 g melted salted butter For richness.
  • 240 ml hot milk or cream Adds creaminess; can substitute with non-dairy milk.

Seasoning

  • Salt and pepper to taste Adjust to preference.

Preparation

  • Place peeled, quartered potatoes and optional garlic in a pot of cold, salted water.
  • Bring to a boil and cook for 15-20 minutes until tender.

Mashing

  • Drain the potatoes well, return them to the hot pot, and let them steam dry for 2 minutes.
  • Add melted butter and begin mashing.

Finishing

  • Gradually pour in the hot milk, mashing gently until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Season well with salt and pepper and serve immediately.

Notes

For a beautiful finish, add a little extra melted butter on top before serving. They are best served hot, paired with roasted meats or gravy. You can customize your mashed potatoes by adding chopped chives or grated cheese.
