Oven-Baked Cabbage Burgers

Ingredients
  

Cabbage and Toppings

  • 1 small head Cabbage (cut into thick slices) Cut into thick slices to hold up during baking.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (for brushing) For brushing the cabbage slices.
  • 1 cup Cheese (for sprinkling on top) Choose your preferred cheese.

Filling

  • 1 pound Ground Beef or Turkey (or ground chicken or plant-based options) Any of these can be used based on preference.
  • 1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 large Egg (optional, for binding) Can be omitted if preferred.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Cut the cabbage into thick slices and brush both sides lightly with olive oil.

Filling

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and the egg if using. Mix until well combined.

Assembly

  • Place a generous amount of the meat mixture on top of each cabbage slice, forming a burger shape.

Baking

  • Place the cabbage burgers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through.
  • In the last few minutes of baking, sprinkle cheese on top of each burger and return to the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serving

  • Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. They can be served as is or with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For extra flavor, add spices like chili powder or Italian herbs to the meat mixture. Customize the filling with vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms, or substitute different types of cheese.
