Ingredients

For the Caramelized Onions

  • 4 Tablespoons Butter For caramelizing onions
  • 3 Large Yellow Onions (Sliced) Key for the flavor base

For the Rice

  • 3 Tablespoons Butter For cooking the rice
  • 2 Cups Long Grain White Rice
  • 3 Cloves Garlic (Minced) Enhances flavor
  • 2 teaspoons Dried Thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce Adds depth of flavor
  • 4 Cups Beef Broth For cooking rice
  • 1 Cup Gruyere Cheese For added creaminess
  • 1/2 Cup Parmesan Cheese For flavor enhancement

Instructions

Caramelizing the Onions

  • In a large pot, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are deep golden brown and caramelized, about 25-30 minutes.
  • Remove the onions from the pot and set aside.

Cooking the Rice

  • In the same pot, add 3 tablespoons of butter and melt it.
  • Stir in the long-grain white rice and minced garlic. Cook for about 2 minutes, until the rice is slightly toasted.
  • Add in the dried thyme, dried oregano, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir everything together.
  • Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed the broth.
  • Once done, fluff the rice with a fork and stir in the caramelized onions, Gruyere cheese, and Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Notes

Allow the rice to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply warm it in the microwave or on the stove, adding a splash of broth if necessary to keep it moist.
