  • 4 cups vegetable broth Use low-sodium if preferred.
  • 2 tablespoons miso paste (preferably white or yellow) Miso adds depth and umami.
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari Use tamari for gluten-free option.

Flavor Enhancers

  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated Fresh ginger is preferred for the best flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Minced garlic enhances flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Gives a nutty flavor.
  • Juice of 1 lemon Fresh lemon juice is ideal.
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes Optional, for heat.

Garnishes

  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped For garnish.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped Optional garnish.
  • Salt and pepper to taste To season to preference.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a medium-sized pot, bring the vegetable broth to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  • Add the grated ginger and minced garlic to the pot, letting them infuse their flavors into the broth for about 5 minutes.

Miso Mixture

  • In a small bowl, mix the miso paste with a few tablespoons of hot broth. Stir until the miso is fully dissolved and smooth.
  • Pour the dissolved miso mixture back into the pot, stirring well to combine.

Final Flavors

  • Add the soy sauce (or tamari), lemon juice, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the broth. Stir to ensure all ingredients are well mixed.
  • Allow the broth to simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes to meld the flavors. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as desired.

Serve

  • Ladle the broth into bowls and garnish with chopped green onions and fresh cilantro, if using.

Notes

Miso-Ginger Lemon Detox Broth can be enjoyed warm on its own or as a base for rice noodles, tofu, or steamed vegetables. It stores well, refrigerating for up to 3 days or freezing for 2-3 months.
