Ingredients
  

For the Mini Bloomin' Onions

  • 4 small small onions Choose onions that will bloom nicely.
  • 1 cup buttermilk Can substitute with regular milk mixed with vinegar or lemon juice.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper Adjust for desired heat.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying Ensure oil is hot enough before frying.

For the Buttermilk Ranch Dip

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon dried dill
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Slice the tops off the onions and peel them. Cut the onions into petals without cutting all the way through.
  • Soak the onions in buttermilk for about 30 minutes.

Frying

  • In a bowl, mix flour, paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Heat oil in a deep pan.
  • Dredge the soaked onions in the flour mixture and fry until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.

Ranch Dip Preparation

  • Combine ranch dip ingredients in a bowl.

Serving

  • Serve the fried onions hot with the ranch dip on the side.

Notes

For the best taste, eat Mini Bloomin' Onions fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in an oven at 350°F (175°C) to regain some crispiness. Avoid microwaving.
