Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.8 kg sweet potatoes, peeled Choose firm and smooth sweet potatoes for best texture.
  • 75 g butter Adjust the amount for desired creaminess.
  • 80 ml half-and-half or warmed milk Add more milk if necessary for creaminess.
  • to taste Salt Season generously.
  • to taste black pepper Season generously.
  • optional Cinnamon Use for garnish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Place peeled, cubed sweet potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 15 minutes, until tender.
  • Drain the potatoes well and return them to the hot pot off the heat. Let them sit for 2-3 minutes so all the steam can escape.
  • Add the butter to the hot, dry potatoes and use a masher or ricer until they are nearly smooth.
  • Gently stir in the warmed milk, mixing until you reach a creamy consistency. Do not overmix.
  • Season generously with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with a pinch of cinnamon if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store the mashed sweet potatoes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. Reheat gently in the microwave or stovetop, adding more milk as needed. For variations, consider mixing in roasted garlic, cream cheese, or maple syrup for extra flavor.
