Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed Warm, not hot, to activate the yeast.
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Glaze Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup Increase for a stronger maple flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)

Dough Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla, mixing well.
  • Gradually add in the flour and salt, stirring until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth, then place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for an hour.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick and cut into bars.
  • Place bars on a baking sheet and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Glazing

  • For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk in a bowl. Drizzle over warm bars before serving.

Notes

Maple Donut Bars are best served warm. You can enjoy them as they are or pair them with a hot beverage. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or freeze individually wrapped bars for longer storage.
