Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 8 pieces taco shells
  • 1 pound ground beef or shredded chicken Use ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or a blend) Mix of cheeses can enhance the flavor.
  • 1 cup sour cream For topping.
  • 2 cups lettuce (shredded) For topping.
  • 1 cup tomatoes (diced) For topping.
  • 1 packet taco seasoning Use the amount specified per package instructions.
  • 1/2 cup jalapeños (sliced, optional) For topping.
  • 1 whole avocado (sliced, optional) For topping.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven according to taco shell package instructions.
  • In a skillet, cook ground beef or chicken over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Sprinkle taco seasoning over the meat and mix with water as per the package instructions. Cook until thickened.
  • Fill the taco shells with the cooked meat, then top with shredded cheese.
  • Place the filled taco shells in the oven and bake until the cheese melts and the shells are crispy.
  • Remove from oven and add toppings like lettuce, diced tomatoes, jalapeños, avocado, and a dollop of sour cream.

Notes

These tacos are best served warm right out of the oven. Consider providing extra toppings on the side so your guests can build their own tacos. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge, where they will stay fresh for about 2-3 days. Reheat in the oven to restore crispiness.
