Ingredients

Meat and Cheese

  • 1 lb ground beef Use fresh or thawed beef
  • 4 slices provolone cheese Or any cheese of your preference

Vegetables

  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional) Add for extra flavor

Seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Other

  • 4 pieces hoagie rolls Slice lengthwise for filling
  • Olive oil, for cooking For sautéing vegetables

Instructions

Cooking

  • In a large skillet, add a drizzle of olive oil and heat over medium-high.
  • Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for about 3-5 minutes until tender. If using, add mushrooms and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  • Push the vegetables to the side and add the ground beef. Break apart and cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together for about 2 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat to low. Place a slice of cheese over the beef mixture, cover the skillet, and allow the cheese to melt, about 2-3 minutes.
  • While the cheese is melting, slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through.
  • Once the cheese has melted, spoon the beef and vegetable mixture into each roll.
  • Optionally, toast the rolls for added texture before serving.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Don't overcook the beef; it should be browned but still juicy. You can try different cheeses for a unique twist. Toasting the hoagie rolls adds a nice crunch.
