Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup Milk (lukewarm) Ensure it's lukewarm, not hot.
  • 1/4 cup Water (lukewarm) Ensure it's lukewarm, not hot.
  • 2 1/4 tsp Instant Yeast (1 packet) Used to help the dough rise.
  • 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 3 3/4 cup All-Purpose Flour Can substitute with bread flour.
  • 4 tbsp Unsalted Butter (divided) Melted butter is used in the dough.
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/8 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

Filling Ingredients

  • 1/8 cup Heavy Whipping Cream Can substitute with coconut cream for a dairy-free version.
  • 1/3 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips Add more for a gooier center.
  • 1/4 cup Graham Cracker Crumbs

Meringue Topping Ingredients

  • 2 large Egg Whites (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/8 tsp Cream of Tartar
  • 1/8 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract (divided) Use 1/4 tsp for meringue topping.

Instructions
 

Dough Preparation

  • In a bowl, mix the lukewarm milk, lukewarm water, and instant yeast. Let it sit for a few minutes.
  • In another bowl, combine the sugar, flour, salt, and cocoa powder.
  • Add the yeast mixture and 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for 5–7 minutes until it is smooth.

Filling Preparation

  • In a small bowl, mix together the heavy whipping cream, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and graham cracker crumbs.

Assembly

  • Roll out the dough into a rectangle.
  • Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
  • Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other.
  • Cut the rolled dough into equal pieces.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Place the rolls in a greased baking dish.
  • Let them rise for about 30 minutes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Meringue Topping

  • In a bowl, beat the egg whites, sugar, cream of tartar, and salt until stiff peaks form.
  • Add 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract and mix gently.

Finalizing Rolls

  • Once the rolls are done baking, spread the meringue topping over them.
  • Return to the oven for an additional 5–7 minutes, until the meringue is lightly golden.

Notes

Serve the rolls warm. They can be paired with vanilla ice cream or chocolate sauce. For storage, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, refrigerate for up to a week, or freeze tightly in plastic wrap.
