Ingredients
  

Crust and Base

  • 1 piece pie crust Store-bought or homemade

Filling

  • 4 pieces large onions, thinly sliced Caramelized for best flavor
  • 200 g smoky bacon, diced Use good quality for depth of flavor
  • 3 pieces eggs Large eggs are preferred
  • 300 ml sour cream For a creamy custard texture
  • 200 ml milk Any kind of milk works
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing the onions
  • Fresh thyme (optional) For garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, milk, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  • Stir in the cooked bacon and caramelized onions.
  • Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a pie dish.
  • Pour the onion mixture into the prepared crust.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the custard is set and the top is lightly golden.

Serving

  • Allow it to cool slightly before serving, and garnish with fresh thyme if desired.

Notes

Can be served warm or at room temperature. Pairs well with a simple green salad or pickles. For variation, add different vegetables or omit bacon for a vegetarian option.
