Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups masa harina (corn flour)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup warm water

Preparation

  • In a bowl, mix the masa harina, salt, and baking powder together.
  • Slowly add warm water to the dry ingredients. Mix until it forms a dough.
  • Knead the dough for a few minutes until it is smooth.
  • Divide the dough into small balls, about the size of a golf ball.
  • Flatten each ball into a disk about half an inch thick.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  • Fry each disk for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden and puffed up.
  • Remove from the oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Notes

Serve Fried Gorditas warm. They can be topped with cheese, salsa, or guacamole, or used for tacos.
