Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup long grain white rice (uncooked)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup (condensed)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) beef broth (or water with beef bouillon)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, sliced into pats
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped (optional) For extra flavor
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley or shredded cheese For serving

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease your baking dish.
  • In the baking dish, combine the rice, French onion soup, beef broth, and chopped onions (if using). Stir to evenly distribute.
  • Place the butter slices evenly across the top of the rice mixture.

Cooking

  • Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake uncovered for another 20–25 minutes until the liquid is absorbed and the top is golden and slightly crisp.
  • Let sit for a few minutes, then fluff gently with a fork.
  • Garnish as desired and serve warm.

Notes

For an extra touch of flavor, sauté the chopped onions in a little butter before adding them to the rice mixture. Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper according to your taste. Make sure to cover the baking dish tightly with foil to keep the steam in, which helps cook the rice evenly.
