Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (cold, cubed) Use cold butter for flaky layers
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently a few times.
  • Roll out the dough to about 1 inch thick and cut into rounds.
  • Place on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Serve warm.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature. Best enjoyed the same day but can last up to two days. For longer storage, freeze in a freezer-safe bag for up to three months. Avoid over-kneading the dough for lighter biscuits.
