Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 lb ground halal beef sausage
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 14.5 oz petite diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups dry penne pasta
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 2 cups jarred spaghetti sauce

Instructions

  • Warm the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the ground beef sausage, chopped onion, and minced garlic.
  • Cook and stir until the sausage is browned completely.
  • Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  • Stir in the Italian seasoning, diced tomatoes with their juices, dry penne pasta, and chicken broth.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat.
  • Cover the pan and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until pasta is al dente and liquid has thickened.
  • Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking and prevent sticking.

Notes

Ensure you use a non-alcoholic spaghetti sauce brand. If the sauce becomes too thick before the pasta is cooked, add a splash of water or more broth. Garnish with fresh parsley or parmesan cheese if desired.
