Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure butter is softened for easy mixing.
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange zest Feel free to add more zest for a stronger flavor.
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, orange zest, and salt, then gradually mix in the dry ingredients.
  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes to improve texture.

Baking

  • Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place them onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Flatten each ball slightly with a glass and sprinkle with sugar.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden.
  • Allow cookies to cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Store cooled cookies in an airtight container for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze them in a freezer-safe bag for up to three months. Optional: Add chocolate chips or raisins for extra flavor.
