  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 1 cup cold water Helps make the batter crispier.
  • Oil for frying Oil for frying Use vegetable or canola oil.

Preparation

  • Slice the onions into rings.
  • In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, then into the cold water, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
  • Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  • Serve hot with dipping sauces of choice.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in an oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 10 minutes. For variations, consider adding cayenne for spice or cheese to the breadcrumbs.
