Ingredients
  

For the Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter Ensure your sourdough starter is active.
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Optional: increase for a sweeter roll.

For the Frosting

  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, sourdough starter, milk, melted butter, sugar, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  • Let the dough rest overnight in a greased bowl, covered with a damp cloth.

Rolling & Proofing

  • Roll out the dough and sprinkle it with cinnamon and brown sugar.
  • Roll it tightly and slice into rolls.
  • Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let them proof for 1-2 hours.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Making the Frosting

  • In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Once the rolls are cooled slightly, slather the cream cheese frosting on top.

Notes

Serve warm with coffee or tea. For extra flavor, consider adding nuts or raisins to the filling. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
