  • 1 large onion, sliced into rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Consider using panko for added crunch.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite) Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese.
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • as needed oil for frying or cooking spray for air fryer
  • optional optional toppings (paprika, garlic powder, herbs, etc.) Customize to your preference.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) or preheat the air fryer.
  • Set up a breading station: place flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings in a third bowl.
  • Dip each onion ring in flour, then in egg, and finally in breadcrumbs, ensuring they are well coated.
  • Place the coated onion rings on a baking sheet or in the air fryer basket.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese over the onion rings.

Cooking

  • Bake in the oven for about 15-20 minutes or in the air fryer for about 10 minutes, until golden and crispy.

Serving

  • Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing, ketchup, or hot sauce.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer to restore crispiness.
