Ingredients
  

For the crust

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with whole wheat flour.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Light or dark brown sugar can be used.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature.
  • 1 egg Large egg recommended.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the filling

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Can add nutmeg or allspice for extra flavor.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

For assembly

  • 1/4 cup milk For a slightly richer dough.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  • In a bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, and salt.
  • Add the softened butter, egg, and vanilla extract, and mix until the dough forms.
  • Press half of the dough into the bottom of the greased baking dish.

Filling

  • In another bowl, mix the cinnamon and granulated sugar, then sprinkle it over the crust.
  • Roll out the remaining dough and place it on top of the filling.

Baking

  • Bake for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Allow to cool before slicing into bars.

Notes

Serve bars warm or at room temperature. They can be enjoyed plain or with icing on top. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for a week. To freeze, wrap tightly in plastic and place in a sealed bag, lasting up to 3 months.
