Ingredients
  

For the Brownies

  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 10 slices Use high-quality unsalted butter
  • 6 ounces chopped semi-sweet chocolate, good quality See notes
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, light or dark
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, spoon and leveled
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks (optional) For extra chocolate flavor
  • flaky sea salt (optional – for topping)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a medium saucepot, add butter slices and place onto a stove burner set to medium heat. Heat, stirring frequently, until the butter melts and turns a light golden brown color, about 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Working quickly, whisk in chopped chocolate until melted and smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • In a large bowl, combine both sugars and eggs. Whisk together until the sugar dissolves, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Add vanilla, cocoa, and slightly cooled brown butter mixture to the egg mix, and whisk to combine.
  • Add flour, salt, and chocolate chips to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.

Baking

  • Pour your batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake in the center of your preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is no longer shiny and a skewer inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  • Cool completely in the pan, then cut into 16 slices. Optionally, sprinkle flaky sea salt on top before serving.

Notes

Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
