Ingredients

For the Blueberry Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • ½ cup sugar (more or less to taste)
  • 1 cup water (for simple syrup)
  • Peels of 2-3 pieces lemons (optional)

For the Lemonade

  • Juice of 4-5 lemons about ¾ cup juice
  • 4 cups water (for lemonade)
  • Mint, lemon peels, and slices, blueberries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Peel and juice 4-5 lemons.
  • To make the sugar syrup, add half of the lemon peels, blueberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water into a saucepan.
  • Heat this mixture until the sugar dissolves and the blueberries begin to pop, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit for a few minutes to cool.
  • Using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain out the berries and lemon peel from the simple syrup.

Mixing

  • Add the blueberry simple syrup to a large pitcher and mix in 4 cups of cold water.
  • Chill the mixture in the fridge.

Serving

  • When chilled, pour over ice, add optional garnishes, and enjoy!

Notes

Taste the blueberry syrup before adding it to water. Adjust the sugar to your liking! For a stronger blueberry flavor, use more blueberries in the syrup. Make it fizzy by mixing the lemonade with sparkling water just before serving.
