Crackers and Coating

  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers You can use other types of crackers if desired.
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 1 packet ranch dressing mix
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes Adjust for heat preference.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 250°F (120°C) if you choose to bake them.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine canola oil, ranch dressing mix, crushed red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  • Place the saltine crackers in a large zip-top bag or a large bowl.
  • Pour the oil mixture over the crackers. Seal the bag or cover the bowl and shake vigorously to coat all the crackers evenly.
  • Let the crackers sit for at least 30 minutes to absorb the flavors, shaking them occasionally.
  • If baking, spread the crackers on a baking sheet and bake for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

Store any leftover Alabama Fire Crackers in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. Adjust the amount of crushed red pepper flakes for your desired spice level.
